A Lament To Artist James Rizzi

January 11, 2012

The downside to living in a bit of a news ‘bubble’ is that you don’t always get the most up-to-date information on the real world. Thank goodness for the Internet. Whilst doing some research online for my artists bio, I just discovered that the wonderful artist – and hero of mine (since people saw elements of his work in my illustrations) in the art world – James Rizzi passed away on December 26th last year!

Featured is a wonderful example of the great work he did: a whole building – the Happy Rizzi House – in Braunschweig, Germany. Perhaps one day, Allentown, PA will allow me to paint my entire house with my Henry the Egg work?

If you don’t know Rizzi’s work, Wikipedia is a good place to start or just google him. His work was always so happy and smily… I would have loved to have met him. What a legacy he leaves behind, inspiring us to the wonderful power and happiness art can shine on the world at large!.

James Rizzi (b. 10.05.50 – d. 12.26.11) you will be missed, but always remembered.
